With keynote lectures from the BDA and CDO, the Clinical Theatre at this year’s BDIA Dental Showcase in March brings together key opinion leaders delivering sessions on the latest techniques that can be used in practice, to a high clinical standard with key learnings, bridging the gap between theory and daily use in practice.

Stella Galer is an experienced dental hygienist and highly respected speaker who will be presenting in the Oral Health Theatre at BDIA Dental Showcase 2024 on Saturday 23rd March at London ExCeL. The session will be delivered on behalf of the British Society of Dental Hygiene and Therapy (BSDHT), exploring the links between obesity and oral health, as well as the dental team’s role in improving patients’ wellbeing.

BDIA Dental Showcase is delighted to announce a new partnership with the British Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry (BACD) for the highly-anticipated 2024 event.

The Aesthetic Theatre was a massive success when launched in 2023. We have partnered with the BACD to present the Theatre in 2024 in order to continue meeting the growing demand from the profession for internationally renowned lecturers in the field. Martin Woodrow, Chief Executive of the British Dental Association (BDA), will be exploring some of the challenges of NHS dentistry in his session at the BDIA Dental Showcase in March 2024.

“The challenges faced within NHS dentistry make it a less attractive place to work for many professionals. A shift to private dentistry offers more freedom in how they approach the provision of care. It enables more time to deliver dentistry, with fewer constraints and less bureaucracy.

As is often the case, dentistry today is in a state of change. There are several challenges that need to be overcome if the profession is to effectively deliver care to patients in the immediate and long-term future.

Some of the concerns centre on NHS dentistry and the impact that the current framework is having on the profession’s ability to care for patients. Martin Woodrow, Chief Executive of the British Dental Association (BDA), considers some of the major associated issues being faced in the UK right now:

“The overwhelming challenge for NHS dentistry is being able to attract and retain a workforce. This applies across the UK. NHS dentistry is not currently an attractive place to work for many professionals. While some changes have been made to the contractual frameworks, in England those have not been enough to stem the flow of professionals seeking a better balance to their working lives. The problem has been there since 2006, but the pandemic accelerated the change we are seeing.”
