Going digital – for the modern dental nurse

About her session, Rebecca comments: Multi-award-winning dental nurse, Rebecca Silver, will be among the exceptional speaker line-up for BDIA Dental Showcase 2026. She will be advocating for the opportunities afforded to dental nurses who utilise digital dentistry, presenting a session titled “The Digital Dental Nurse” in the Oral Health Theatre. About her session, Rebecca comments:

“Dental nurses may find themselves able to utilise more of their scope successfully when getting involved with digital workflows. With training, they can start taking clinical photographs or intraoral scans, or help with designing lab work.

“As with anything in dentistry, a lot depends on the type of practice that individuals work at. If you are in a private practice that prides itself on technology, making the most of it to ensure that the patient journey is exceptional from start to finish, then dental nurses could find themselves getting more involved. However, busy NHS practices might not have the funds, scope or need for extensive digital workflows.

“Another barrier is training. This needs to be provided to dental nurses before they can deliver it successfully – this training takes time and patience, and some practices may not have the time. Certain pieces of technology are also expensive, and therefore owners may be selective about who uses these machines.

“I hope my session will show colleagues some of the latest advances in digital dentistry and AI. I want to encourage dental nurses to expand and use their full scope of practice. You are a huge asset to the practice!

“BDIA Dental Showcase has always been welcoming to me as a DCP. The mixture of stands and speakers allows you to meet and network with people that you may not have otherwise had the chance to. I would encourage my fellow dental nurses to attend as the British Association of Dental Nurses (BADN) are always present and they are a must for any dental nursing questions or queries.

“If you are undecided about attending, do it! It may change your career in ways you do not expect.”

Don’t miss Rebecca in the Oral Health Theatre, speaking on behalf of the BADN, on Saturday 14th March at 15:45.
