Nigal Rutter
Corporate and Orthodontic Manager
Wright’s Cottrell
It is difficult for me to believe that I have been intimately involved with the dental profession for over 40 years.
I spent the first 5 years as a dental technician in Birmingham, I must say I enjoyed being on the tools and to have the ability to learn the basics of dental mechanics.
I then joined Claudius Ashas a sales representative where I spent 8 years learning the basic aspects of the dental trade from some very experienced kind colleagues.
I moved to Dentsply where I spent 21 happy years working for a very professional company that was focused on the best interests of the dental profession generally, I started as a salesman and was subsequently promoted to professional accounts manager (corporate). This provided me with an opportunity to understand the widest aspects of both the practice of dentistry and the way the dental industry supported the whole dental profession.
I then spent 4 years working at Dental Directory in Witham.
I then moved to my latest employment as Corporate and Orthodontic Manager at Wright’s Cottrell, this great opportunity has allowed me to develop my management skills and to harness a more strategic approach to sales generally. This appointment has stimulated me greatly and it is a pleasure to work for such a forward looking company.

Following a gap year studying German whilst selling newspapers outside Vienna’s Wien Mitte railway station and working as an au pair and English tutor in Vienna, and a brief spell at the Home Office Research Unit in the late 70s, Pam Swain brushed up her French in Brussels in the personnel and marketing departments of Hilton International’s European area office, before working at NATO in a number of posts, ranging from Electronic Warfare to Crisis Management, Exercise & Training.
In the late 80s, she moved to Bermuda to work in the Bank of Bermuda’s Investment Department, where she completed three quarters of her American Institute of Banking Diploma and several business management courses at the Bermuda College before moving on. During this time, she trained as a hotline counsellor with the Bermuda Rape Crisis Centre and manned the phone hotline once a week.
Some 15 years after her first gap year, Pam took another – spending 12 months in Boston, Massachusetts studying holistic therapy at the Massage Institute of New England and obtaining the American Massage Therapy Association certification.
Pam returned to her home town of Fleetwood in 1991 and began working for BADN (then ABDSA) in 1992. Gemma Osment
Dental Marketing Manager
DD
This year will mark 22 years in dental industry for me. I started my career as a dental nurse in 1999 in my local dental practice, qualifying in 2001. I still, to this day, hold my GDC registration and keep up to date with all my CPD.
My career then took me to work for 3M as a sales representative implementing some of the well-known products such as Relyx Unicem, Impregum Penta and Filtek Supreme into the marketplace.
I then took a break from dental to work for Ernest and Julio Gallo selling wine which I thoroughly enjoyed! Dentistry is such a huge part of my life and something I hold a personal love for so I came back in 2008 to work for Dentsply. I worked as a product specialist there across all ranges for 2 years. In
2010 I made the move into DD to start my career in retail and enjoyed 6 years before I had my first daughter, who is now 6. I came back from my maternity leave and decided I wanted a new challenge so made the move to Trycare to work for Phil and the team there and enjoyed 2 years adding to my skills around speciality ranges including surgical.
In 2016 I was welcomed back to DD to implement a new range of products into their portfolio whilst working on many other projects within the business. In 2018, I had my second daughter.
Now, many years on I have moved into the marketing team as the Marketing Manager for dental to bring my different areas of skill set into the team, including sales experience, dental knowledge and customer insight.
