Karen Juggins MBE
Dr Karen Juggins is a Consultant Orthodontist at Royal Stoke University Hospital, a specialty examiner and the orthodontic representative on the Clinical Standards Committee of the Royal College of Surgeons of England.
Alongside her clinical and professional roles, Karen is passionate about taking oral health beyond the traditional dental setting. She founded KeepStokeSmiling, an innovative community oral health initiative which has since grown into the national KeepBritainSmiling campaign. At the heart of the initiative is the use of football as a vehicle to engage with local communities and make oral health education accessible, relevant and fun. Through partnerships with professional football clubs and their community foundations, the campaign has taken positive oral health messages directly to children, families and communities. The original partnership with Stoke City Football Club and The Premier League Charity was recognised with the EFL Championship Community Project of the Season Award in 2023. The Premier League Charity now hosts a dental health workshop on its Premier League Primary Stars website.
Karen’s contribution to orthodontics, dentistry and the wider profession has been recognised through a number of national awards. She received the Royal College of Surgeons of England Collier Gold Medal in 2022, and in 2024 was awarded Fellowship Ad Hominem of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, the British Orthodontic Society Distinction Award and a British Dental Association Award for Excellence. She has also been named in Dentistry’s Top 50 in 2024, 2025 and 2026.
In 2026, Karen was appointed a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) in the King’s Birthday Honours.
