Fiona Ellwood
Fiona is a dental nurse registrant, Associate Professor and Director of Dental Education, with over 40 years’ experience across clinical practice, education, regulation, and policy. Her work advances equity, quality, patient and team safety in dental education and care. Her master’s degree focused on education, leadership and management, relating to dental nurses. She is a doctoral researcher and is involved in two current NIHR studies. Fiona serves as a General Dental Council education associate and is a member of the overseas registration panels, led national professional bodies, and contributed widely to policy discourse at many levels. Her research interests include mentoring, mental health and wellbeing, public health, rural communities, and patient safety sciences. Fiona founded Human Factors in Dentistry which aligns to leadership in decontamination and infection prevention and control. She has spoken nationally and internationally on similar matters and published widely and is a recognised advocate for dental nursing.
