Calling All Hygienists

This October Dental Showcase takes place at London’s Excel (4-6 October) bringing together the best of our sector.

Top Lectures

Now’s the time to freshen up your knowledge and skills with a choice of lectures as well as hands-on demonstrations.  If you like learning from your peers, then why not take the opportunity to listen to Mel Prebble and Julie Rosse.  Mel will be discussing ‘Harnessing the power of biotechnology to transform the future of preventative denitstry’.  Julie, who is particularly interested in treating periodontal disease and advocates taking a holistic approach to total oral care, will be reviewing how best to manage periodontal disease in a changing population.

Other lectures you may find interesting are Ben Atkin’s presentation on challenging clinical efficacy and brushing compliance rates with the introduction of Sonicare technology.  Or, if you’d like an update on regulatory matters, then you should listen to John Milne, senior national dental adviser to the CQC, talking about risk in dentistry.

Networking

Dentistry can be quite an isolated industry, even if you work in more than one practice.  Skills, tips and advice can all be shared under Excel’s roof!  You may be very content in your own practice and confident in what you do, but Dental Showcase is a great way to confirm that you are fulfilled, abreast of the latest technology and giving your best. Various associations and regulators will be in attendance, so you’ll have plenty of time to seek out the BSDHT, BADT or BSP for any advice you may need.

Let Your Hair Down

If you’re super-organised, you may have already booked your practice’s Christmas party; but that’s a long way off! Why not let your hair down at the end of the day and attend the ‘Boat Bash’ being hosted by Dental Sky on the Sunborn (docked conveniently outside the Excel centre) on Friday 5th October?  All profits from the evening go to the charity BrushUpUK, set up by a hygienist, Megan Thomas.  The evening will consist of two parts.  The downstairs bar will have live music, canapés, a vintage photo booth, as well as charity events such as auctions and raffles. The second part of the evening will be in an exclusive bar at the top of the yacht, where there will be a casino night, complete with vodka luge!
