From MDD to MDR: What it will mean for the dental team

Saturday, October 19, 2019 14:45 - 15:15

Aims

Re-examine the history of medical device regulation in the UK and the current legal obligations of dental professionals who commission and / or manufacture custom-made medical devices (dental appliances) under the Medical Devices Directive (MDD).

Gain an understanding of the Medical Device Regulation (MDR), which entered into force on 25 May 2017 and will repeal the MDD following a three-year transitional period.

Explore what this change will mean for dental professionals who commission and / or manufacture custom-made medical devices.

Objectives

Understand the current legal obligations of dental professionals who commission and / or manufacture custom-made medical devices.

Recognise that from 26 May 2020, dental professionals who commission and / or manufacture custom-made medical devices will need to do so in accordance with the MDR.
