Healthy lifestyles for healthy gums: implementing lifestyle modification to improve oral and general health
Objectives:
1. Understand the biological mechanisms linking lifestyle factors (diet, physical activity, stress, sleep, smoking, and alcohol) to periodontal and peri-implant diseases.
2. Apply practical, evidence-based strategies in clinical practice to support patient behaviour change and improve oral and systemic health outcomes.
3. Select appropriate adjunctive products, including mouthwashes and dentifrices, tailored to specific periodontal conditions and individual patient needs.
Aims: The lecture aims to explain the links between lifestyle factors and periodontitis, to equip clinicians with practical tools to change patient behaviours, support improvements in oral and general health, and guide evidence-based selection of adjunctive products, including mouthwashes and dentifrices, to manage and prevent a range of oral conditions effectively.
