The General Dental Council’s Scope of Practice states ‘it is essential that ALL registrants are trained in dealing with medical emergencies, including resuscitation.’ Within secondary care such as the Oral and Maxillofacial department, junior dentists may not be medically trained and the provision of training on medical emergencies during placements is variable.
Our aim was to provide teaching on responding to medical emergencies using both formal lectures and simulation to improve the confidence, ability and familiarity among maxillofacial staff.
Aims and Objectives
- Introduce the SIM Suite to Dental Professionals – Virtual tour.
- To discuss the benefits found from our pilot project in providing Simulated Medical Emergency training to dentally qualified professionals.
- Discuss how dental professionals can utilise such training in the future.
